I think the album I’m most looking forward to in 2012 is The Avalanches. Maybe that’s because it’s been 12 years since their debut Since I Left You. Which, in my opinion is one of the masterpieces of sampling based music. They have been hard at work and we should see the results sometime early next year.
So I was reading an article online about it and they linked a video for the single “Frontier Psychologist” from the last album. I never knew they did a video, but it’s pretty interesting and odd. They had actors representing all of the random vocal samples. My favorite part is the granny drumming.
New single from Portico Quartet’s Self Titled album. I want a hang drum.
Another clever video off of Mayer Hawthorne’s new album How Do You Do?
Another one from my Top Albums of 2011 List. DJ Shadow in the Boiler Room playing a 30 min mix of vinyl samples from his album The Less You Know, The Better. Damn he’s still got it.
New video for Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s song Bicycle. Can’t go wrong with a model being bad in the desert. Probably my favorite new band this year. I was obsessed with the 4 song EP and the album is on my best of the year list (coming soon). I missed them twice when they came through NC, but I will not make that mistake again.
Cool interview / mini documentary on Peaking Lights, whose album 936 I’ve just gotten into. I think couple or husband and wife bands are cool, check Moon Duo.
My new obsession Purity Ring. Come to North Carolina for a show please. Purity Ring will be opening for Neon Indian @ Cat’s Cradle on March 24th 2012. That only happened because I asked nicely.
